Series of Grace

Nehemiah 9:31 says, “But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for You are a gracious and merciful God.”

God’s grace is “the free and unmerited favour of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings”. Grace cannot be earned, nor is it deserved - it is given to us as a gift because God loves us.

In my series, titled Grace, I aspire to visually interpret the beauty of God’s grace.

The close-up portraits engraved with cracks portray the story of a woman - Grace. Her gentle, soft body, a depiction of the beauty of God’s creation, contrasts the dark cracks curling around her strong figure. She’s been battered by the challenges of the human world. Her story is a testimony of the grace her heavenly Father gives freely; the mercy

she did not have to work for; and the growth into the strong woman she is today.

Portraying the cracked, yet beautiful body of Grace, I strive to visualise the beauty of God’s grace during the hardship our frail human minds and bodies face during our life on earth. The cracks on her body are metaphorical testimonies of the undeserved favour of God towards us, testifying of God’s goodness and the undeniable beauty of

being created by God.

Making close-up portraits of Grace's body, I challenge the viewer to look closer at the cracks not only on her portraits but also on their bodies and urge them to see the grace of God in their daily lives.

Complementing her womanly figure is a light background, accentuating the soft curves, yet strong figure. The light background is also a symbol of overcoming your challenges with God, stepping into His light, and walking alongside Him in faith.

I hope to bring to life the testimony of many and represent God's character of grace within these fractured close-ups. It is only by His grace, that I am who I am today, that I can draw what I draw.

No matter how many cracks life leaves on you, God is with you, ready to bestow His grace upon you.
