Precious

Precious draws its main inspiration from our current reality - our mother city, Cape Town, is experiencing the most severe drought in more than a century (2017, 2018).

Our dam levels reached a low of 17% despite the City having enforced water restriction.   It occurred to me that despite our best efforts water continues to slip through our fingers.  Once you are denied access to one of your basic needs, you start understanding its true value.

In Precious, water is a representation of life.  The hands of our story that hold our long told histories and our hopeful promises of our future.

The essence of this portrait is to accentuate how easily something valuable and desirable can slip through your fingers when you try to hold on to it.
